It started with Richard Avedon

a few years back when I saw his series The American West. A group of portraits shot against a white background across a wide expanse of the West, Avedon defined the context with the faces of his subjects.

...then it went to the Nashville Steeplechase.

Nashville's version of the famous Ascot horse races in England, (made more so in My Fair Lady), this is the most fashionable event of the year and my favorite event to photograph. I have loved taking pictures there, shooting fashionistas decked to the teeth in wildly fashionable and fanciful hats and more, as fast as I can.

so I decided to combine the two...

and add some rules, mainly to shoot 100 strangers on the street in one day against a white backgound in different cities around the world.
